Our archive of the daily headline findings from Prince Rupert's Daily News newspaper, this one for the month of April 2009.

April 30-- MARTIN ABORIGINAL INITIATIVE SUPPORTS STUDENT ENTREPRENEURS-- Former Prime Minister Paul Martin made a trip to Prince Rupert to highlight his ongoing support for Aboriginal achievement across Canada. Martin is continuing on with his long held interest in First Nations issues with his support of the Paul Martin Aboriginal Initiative, which locally is highlighted by the Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship program at Charles Hays Secondary School. April 29-- NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE LITTLE PEOPLE-- It's a sure fire way to sell some papers, a front page picture of some kindergarten aged students and the story of their success in raising money for the local Wildlife Rehab shelter. (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 28-- A TRIO OF CANDIDATES WILL BE DEBATING ISSUES OF THE DAY-- The Daily News provides a preview of Wednesday night's candidates debate at the Lester Centre for the Arts. (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 27-- TELLING THE TALES OF OUR LONG-TIME CITIZENS-- The front page, headline story in Monday's paper provided a look at a project that spanned the winter featuring a group of Rupert writers, all of whom have been chronicling the lives of some of Prince Rupert's seniors. April 24-- COMMUNITY INVITED TO PUT THE MEDAL TO THE PEDAL-- Prince Rupert is about to join many other communities in the annual Bike to Work week awareness campaign, as local cycling enthusiasts get out the message. (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 23-- COMPLETELY PLUGGED' INTO THE LOCAL MUSIC SCENE-- The rehearsals are all but done and anticipation is building for Sunday's music show dubbed "Completely Plugged" set for the Lester Centre of the Arts. (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 22-- THORKELSON HAS SOME NEW FISH TO FRY-- Joy Thorkelson will bring her years of experience in the fishing industry back to the Pacific Salmon commission, as she joins the Northern panel of the commission. (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 21-- FAREWELL TO THE QUEEN OF PRINCE RUPERT-- Monday's decommissioning of the Queen of Prince Rupert was the front page, headline story of Tuesday's paper, complete with pictures of the family portrait of BC Ferries on the North coast and photos from the Monday farewell. April 20-- PRINCE RUPERT SECONDARY STUDENTS BRING LITTLE BEAR TO LIFE-- Monday's headline, front page story provided some background on a project being put together by Prince Rupert Secondary School students, a children's book that will bring the Khutzymateen to life for children everywhere. April 17-- A CELEBRATION OF HAIDA INFLUENCE IN UNIQUE WAYS-- An exhibition of Kostan Lagace's artwork is set to take place at Opa Sushi in May, the Daily News previewed that showing and outlined some background on Lagace as the front page, headline story in the Friday paper (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 16-- TRACK AND FIELD ENTHUSIASTS ARE GETTING EXCITED-- Fans of Track and Field will be looking forward to May, that's when the high school zones return to Prince Rupert for the first time in over a decade. (see a full review of the articles of the day here)
April 15-- THE PORT AUTHORITY IS RIDING OUT THE STORM-- The Prince Rupert Port Authority provided a bit of an outline to the community as to how it is handling the current malaise in the world economy. (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 14-- STOLEN CAR BECAME A BURNING ISSUE-- The Daily offers up some CSI interpretations on a pair of crimes committed over the weekend, as they draw parallels between a stolen game from Data Boy computers downtown and a stolen car on the city's west side. April 13-- A SNEAK PEEK AT THE 2010 OLYMPIC TORCH -- The Olympic Torch passes through Prince Rupert stopping at the Royal Bank on its way to its cross country tour of the nation, it returns to Rupert lit this time in February (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 9-- DANCE ACADEMY OF PRINCE RUPERT IS ENJOYING SUCCESS-- Local Dancers find success in a Prince George competition (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 8-- ICE CAPER-- The scheduled performances of a touring ice skating show are cancelled after the promoters shuts down the tour in Williams Lake (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 7-- IT'S BEEN ALONG JOURNEY BUT SHE'S HERE... SHE'S HERE!-- The BC Ferry Corporation introduces the newest ferry to the service to the North Coast as the Northern Expedition arrives for a few weeks of training sessions prior to its introduction to service (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 6-- PRINCE RUPERTITES JOIN A 191 KM RIDE FOR CANCER-- Two local men join up with other British Columbians to ride for Cancer between Vancouver and Seattle (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 3-- RUPERT WILL BE HOSTING THE NORTHERN B. C. GAMES IN 2010-- Local organizers begin their preparations to host the Northern BC Winter Games in 2010 (see a full review of the articles of the day here)

April 2-- SPECTRUM CITY IS DANCING THEIR HEARTS OUT-- One of Prince Rupert's two Dance studios gains a bit of attention during a Prince George competition. (see a full review of the articles of the day here)
