Minette Bay Ship docking to change ownership

Pending regulatory approval from Canadian competition regulators, the locally operated tugs of Minette Bay Ship Docking may soon be working for Dutch owners.

Smit Internationale Marine is reported to have completed the purchase on Wednesday, of the three Rupert based Minette Bay tugs, a move that will see the local operation join the ranks of Smit's Vancouver based BC fleet which currently numbers fifteen tugs.

Smit is one of the world's largest tugboat operators, with over 150 tugs operating in Europe, North and South America and Asia and is based out of the Netherlands.

Minette Bay has been providing ship docking services around Prince Rupert waters for a number of years and is the provider of docking services to the Ridley Island Coal Terminal.

There was no announced price of purchase for the Minette Bay assets, nor a timetable as to when the purchase will be considered complete.
