Kevin Falcon flashes more cash inland and leaves 10 million for Terrace area road reconstruction

And we thought we were so special!

While Prince Rupert cashes its giant cheque of yesterday and puts those 350,000 dollars towards the Alaska Ferry dock repairs, further down the highway in Terrace they're firing up the road graders, bulldozers and pavers and getting ready to rebuild some highway.

The Transportation Minister was in Terrace yesterday as well and CFTK TV is reporting that while there he provided funding for 10 million dollars in repairs to Highway 16 in the sections that were flooded east of the city in last years floods.

40 kilometers of highway between Thornhill and Big Oliver Creek will be repaired and resurfaced in the project, which follows on the heels of his work in the Bulkley Valley on Tuesday when he announced close to 4 million dollars in spending in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District roads.

One wonders if he was wearing a red suit during his trip to the northwest.

The Minister's governmental website was quick to trumpet his Northern journey with a number of postings made to it over the last few days.

$2 MILLION TO IMPROVE TRANSPORTATION IN SMITHERS
$1.05-MILLION GRANT TO IMPROVE LOCAL ROADS IN HOUSTON
$300,000 GRANT TO IMPROVE LOCAL ROADS IN BURNS LAKE
$400,000 GRANT TO IMPROVE LOCAL ROADS IN TELKWA

CFTK had some background on the flurry of cash announcements posted to their website yesterday.

The province has announced ten million dollars in funding to resurface Highway 16 east of Terrace. Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon made the announcement Wednesday in Terrace. The project calls for repairing and resurfacing 40 kilometers of highway between Thornhill and Big Oliver Creek, damaged by last year's flooding and a massive landslide near Legate Creek.

Tenders are expected to be awarded by the end of this month. Work should begin in August, and be complete by next July.

Earlier in the day, Falcon was in Prince Rupert, where he promised 350-thousand dollars for emergency renovations to the Alaska Ferry Dock.

Falcon has been flashing his chequebook this week in the Northwest. On Tuesday, he announced millions of dollars in spending in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District, to help repair roads impacted by the harvest of timber infested by the mountain pine beetle.
