"It is incredibly arrogant and a betrayal"

There will be no mis-understanding on where Nathan Cullen stands on last weeks announcement of the resumption of fish farming in BC.

Last Friday, the province announced that Marine Harvest had been granted two finfish licences for the waters near Klemtu. A decision that left the MP for Skeena-Bulkley Valley more than a little upset at the Gordon Campbell government.

It has been an issue that Cullen has been prominent in his opposition. Earlier this year in April, Cullen introduced a Private Member’s motion in the House of Commons calling for a fish farm free northern BC.

He was also quite outspoken against open net salmon aquaculture at committee hearings in Smithers in October.

His comments on the issue in particular highlight his disappointment in the governments decision, suggesting that it mocks the BC Special Committee on Sustainable Aquaculture report released two months ago. That report, recommended no salmon farm development be permitted north of Cape Caution.

A recommendation that the provincial government apparently didn't feel was one that should be cast in stone.
