In the ever popular battle of which animal makes the best pet, Dogs made a big claim for the title thanks to a family pet in Vancouver.
West Vancouver police are speaking highly of a family pet that held a wandering bear at bay, protecting four kids in a tree house.
The bear which had crashed into the yard looking for fruit found itself distracted by the dog, while the homeowner and probably frantic Mom or Dad banged pots and pans to scare off the hungry Bruin.
No word on whether there was a cat around the house, but if so, it no doubt was watching in a disinterested fashion waiting for things to settle down and snacks to be served.

Vancouver police say a family dog protected four young children trapped in a tree house after a hungry bear wandered into the garden where they were playing.
Police in the suburb of West Vancouver say the homeowner, alerted by the children's screams, ran into the garden while the dog went to the base of the tree where the children, ages two to six, were trapped and refused to move.
Police say the bear left after the homeowner banged pots and pans to scare it.
It is believed the bear was lured to the garden by a plum tree, which was found demolished and relieved of its fruit
