Prince Rupert Memorial for Nelson Leeson set for tonight


The final journey of Nelson Leeson, will include a stop in Prince Rupert tonight as members of the Nisga'a nation mourn his passing at a memorial service at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre at 7 pm this evening.

Mr. Leeson, the President of the Nisga'a Lisims Government passed away in a Prince George hospital on Thursday, after suffering a seizure, his passing has been commemorated across the province and country by many who had cause to work with him over the years as he advocated on behalf of the Nisga'a. A notice on the Nisga'a Lisims website outlined his importance to the Nisga'a Nation and his accomplishments in his years of service.

His journey back home begins today in Terrace with a public viewing this morning, he will then be transported to Prince Rupert for tonight's memorial service, kept overnight in the care of Christ the King Church in Port Edward and then returned to Terrace and on to New Aiyansh.

A memorial service is planned in his home town of Laxgalts’ap at the Recreation Center on Friday at 4 pm.

His funeral service takes place Saturday afternoon at the recreation centre.
