It's the high season in Saskatchewan, lots of sun and apparently lots of gun.
The province's infamous gopher population is apparently once again running amok from Alberta to Manitoba, with Saskatchwean farmers at the end of their patience with the multiplying rodents which have set up homesteads on prairie farms.
The gophers are ruining crops, causing damage to machinery and injuring livestock and their bountiful holes are becoming a blight on the Saskatchewan horizon.
Enter the big game gohper hunt, farmers in the southern reaches of the province have taken to inviting tourists to come on out, set up a tent or a trailer and blast as many gophers as you want for as long as you can.
It's an offer tht is apperntly finding a good reception as travelers from across Canada arrive on Saskatchewan farms to take their best shots...
Time will tell how they gophers fare with all the added attention, it could give a whole new image to the Saskatchewan tourism industry with a new focus and perhaps a new slogan, something like "Come visit Saskatchewan, it's a blast"
