From the Smoking Gun TV files

Long before the days of 24 hour cable news, talk radio and websites, our news came from grainy newsreels and as progress came along black and white television news casts.

The Smoking Gun has introduced an interesting feature to its website, The Smoking Gun TV an archive of recent and past items of newsworthiness or entertainment value. Many are from those ancient newsreels of the early twenties, thirties and forties, TV rendered them obsolete from the 50's on, much like the Internet threatens to do to TV today.

We stumbled across the feature today and thought we'd share some of the clips we come across from time to time. Some you may remember and others you may never have heard of, but it's interesting to see how they were reported on back in the day.

We'll archive our selections here, so c'mon back into the way back machine with us:

July 26--Long before Al Qaeada there were those Damn Canadians
July 26--Look who's having an Anniversary!
July 26--The Hindenburg crashes
