It was ten years ago today, that Prince Rupert became the eye in the storm of an international incident. It was on this day ten years ago that Canadian fishermen blocked in the Alaska Ferry MV Malsapina at the Fairview Alaska Marine Highway Service dock.
High tension reigned for three days as politicians bickered and some blustered of sending in the Marines or the US Coast Guard to free their blocked in vessel.
The following months would see ferry service to Prince Rupert cancelled by AMHS, with five months passing before normal service would resume.
It was a fascinating three days, one which split the local community over the tactics used to get a message across to all levels of government.
The Sit News has published a retrospective of those angry days, an interesting look at some recent history that still to this day can fire up the emotions.
