It’s like a reminder of the days of old, or perhaps it’s an indication that we really are heading for better times! For the first time in a number of years, Prince Rupert will be hosting its second traveling carnival in a year.
Yes, a second chance for you and your money to become separated, as we find something called Shooting Star Amusements setting up shop at the Civic Centre parking lot in mid August.
Now back in the day of endless money, we were frequently home to a spring and a summer carnival; we already had our spring affair this year when West Coast Amusements rolled through town in May. But this mid summer festival is something unexpected. It’s been a number of years and more than a few cents on a litre of gas when the carnies would make two trips to Rupert in a year.
It seems rather strange that there are two traveling carnivals in these days of ever increasing gas prices, but there it is on page 9 of the Extra, a four day festival of rides, fried foods and games of chance. Midways open at 3 pm on Thursday and Friday, Noon hour on Saturday and Sunday.
Judging by the two websites, the Shooting Star folks seem to be the junior of the circuit, there are not as many rides it would seem, but probably still enough to offer to get your young ones on your case early.
With two visits per year, suddenly it seems there must be money to be made in the traveling road shows. You can add your contribution to their bottom line from August 17 to 20, or perhaps it’s time to pack the kids off for that long put off camping vacation, saving yourself the trouble of getting tapped twice in the same year, for carnival fun.
