"As long as Cheney doesn’t get him arrested, fine, let him have it.”

The above quote, is from John Dean's (yes he of Watergate fame) new book. A ghost from the past returning to haunt the walkers of the White House halls today.

Dean is interviewed as part of Eleanor Clift's contribution to MSNBC's website, an online segment from her politics column in Newsweek magazine.

The topic of the day; Iraq, Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney's fingerprints.

The basic content of the article (which you can read here) is that the current Iraqi mess is basically the creation of the Vice-President, who has been noticeably absent these last few weeks as things take a much more violent turn in the Middle East, from Iraq, through Afghanistan and into Lebanon.

With the best that the administration is able to come up with being nothing but a holding pattern policy, Clift takes aim at the VP and lets Dean explain how "the Vice-Presidency has swallowed the President."

Dean has written a book, that is sure to be must get on many Democrat's book club lists this year (maybe a few nervous Republicans too!). "Conservatives Without Conscience" explores the Cheney influence on the war in Iraq and the sense of fear that seems to be colouring the spectrum of American politics these days.

Clifts' article is a barbed filled look at the declining years of the Bush administration, an interesting retrospective of mistakes made, changing dynamics at the White House and lack of focus at times to the details of governance.

It also ends with a rather pointed comparison between the former employer of Mr. Dean and the current subjects of his new book. Something that won't sit well with the President as he does some light summer vacation reading at the ranch in Crawford.

In the meantime, anyone seen Dick?
