Fire in the east end

About nine thirty or so this evening, black smoked billowed over the east end of the city, as a large house fire broke out in Prince Rupert.

The Fire on Fifth Avenue East was rather close to Hays Cove Petro Can, it appears to be the duplex about two or three houses down the road towards town. It consumed the building in pretty quick time.

By 10 pm the PRFD pretty well had the thing under control, but not much seemed left of the building itself. The RCMP had blocked the road off at Petro Can by the bridge and up on the hill on 5th Avenue.

Must have been some nervous times though with the gas station so close to the scene of the fire. Hopefully no one was injured during what seems to have been a pretty fast moving fire. I believe that they were still working on the house, putting in the dry wall and such, so I don't believe anyone was living there at the moment.

We direct you to the hackingthemainframe site, where Mig snapped some on the spot news pictures of Prince Rupert's Bravest at work.
