A drive down Highway 16 early Monday morning provides a rather amazing sight as the fast rushing waters being fed into the Skeena begin to push the northern river over its banks in a few locations.
Parts of Terrace began to see flooding by mid morning on Monday; Old Remo as well was beginning to suffer the effects of the snow pack run off and swollen feeder streams that are pushing the Skeena over its banks.
Railway trestles near Kasiks and Exchamsiks had water lapping at their platforms and water is edging along both sides of Highway 16 on the approach areas to Terrace.
The past weekends hot temperatures began the quick melt in the mountain areas and the flow is expected to continue through the week adding to the woes of low lying parts of the interior regions of the Northwest. Rain which began to fall in Terrace on Monday afternoon will not help the situation which is bringing back memories of past years of epic floods in the Skeena area.
The two pictures above provide a small sample of the water level along the highway, taken while traveling along the highway Monday morning. On the left a picture of the Skeena west of Polymar, which has all but disappeared from view. Pictured on the right, gives an indication of the water level taken from car level looking out towards the Skeena.
