The talk from the locals hanging around the area, suggested that there was some kind of gas problem in one of the buildings on the block and that the Fire Department had been called out to ventilate the loaction from built up gas.
In order to properly secure the situation, Third avenue was partially blocked off for the stretch in the six hundred block of the street.
Of course this being Podunk, most of the folks were standing around just outside the place, keeping a watchful eye on all of the action. Most likely the same group that traditionally gather down on the waterfront whenever the town is issued a Tsunami alert.
Most of the excitement ended by about 12:30 when the road was reopened to traffic both ways and hungry lunch hour shoppers were allowed to duck into the area restaurants for a bite to eat, though perhaps taking your lunch to go might have been a wiser course of action today.
