Norwalk like virus stalks the Northwest

Northern Health has advised residents of the Northwest to practice some thorough hand washing, this after a number of Norwalk like gastro-intestinal cases have popped up around the region in the last week.

With the large crowds that have gathered in Prince Rupert for the All Native Tournament, the prospect of the illness spreading is also something of a concern, so Northern Health has been working with Tournament organizers through the week to try and keep the bug at bay during these final days of the tournament.

TV 7 had details on the alert for the Northwest posted to their website this week.

Local NewsWash your hands thoroughly! That's the advice from Northern Health, as several cases of Norwalk-like illness are being reported in the region.

Norwalk virus can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea lasting one or two days.

If you're showing these symptoms, or have in the past 48 hours, stay home and avoid spreading the bug.

Public health staff are working with organizers of this week's All-Native Basketball Tournament in Prince Rupert to try to reduce the spread of the bug if it shows up there.
