Real life resembled the thing of television fiction on the streets of Toronto Friday night, as a number of Police agencies conducted raids throughout the city arresting a number of people in a counter terrorism operation.
At least eight people were arrested on Friday, with more arrests expected to come over the weekend as police conducted the largest public operation since the days of 9-11.
Toronto Police worked in conjunction with other departments in Peel and Durham Regions as well as with the RCMP and CSIS in conducting raids across Greater Toronto. The object of their attention apparently a cell of a group described as "terrorists, the one's who hate the west."
Explosives were found a number of locations and authorities surmise that there was a plan in place to use them somewhere in Ontario in the near future.
Earlier this week suspicions were cast upon a number of people who had taken to riding the Toronto subway and taking pictures of the system, their intense interest in the TTC created a bit of a buzz in the Toronto media who wondered why the authorities had not taken steps to find out what was going on. Perhaps with Friday's combined effort an answer was provided.
The suspects were thought to have been held at a police station in Pickering which by Friday night resembled a heavily guarded fortress. The Integrated National Enforcement Team, will hold a press conference on Saturday morning outlining the scope of the operation and what may happen next.
