Scooter scoots free

It is probably the most expected pardon of recent times and in the end it isn't quite a full pardon, but Lewis "Scooter" Libby won't be spending time in the pen while on the Bush/Cheney watch.

The President by granting executive clemency, in effect has given Dick Cheney's former chief of staff a get out of jail almost free card Monday, but he'll still have to abide by the terms of his probation order and will have to pay out a 250,000 dollar fine as a result of his guilty conviction by jury, on charges of perjury over his part in the obstruction of a CIA leak probe.

The announcement came two days before the American Independence Day, a rather nice gesture don't you think allowing Scooter to take in the fireworks event of his choice anywhere in the USA. It was also made as both Congress and the Senate were in recess for the summer and while the President was busy entertaining Russian President Putin.

The decision to commute Lewis' sentence while not unexpected, will serve to add more fuel to the fire about Imperial presidencies and the sense of lack of accountability around the White House these days.

Sadly for fans of satire everywhere, the Daily Show is on a hiatus for the 4th of July week, we're quite sure that the team there would have made sense of it all for us...

While we wait for Bill Maher to work out the details for us, ome of the other media fallout to fill the void, for your consideration:
