Food Inspection agency issues beef advisory

For Canada Safeway and Independent grocery stores of Western Canada this weekend will be a busy one of pulling product out of the coolers and preparing to receive returns from worried customers.

While a full distribution list isn't available yet, consumers have been urged to check the packaging labels and universal codes on their beef products to see if they fall into the problem time frames.

To that end, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a warning for the following items that may be contaminated with E coli bacteria:

Fresh ground beef bought in B.C. and Alberta between May 24 and June 5 that have best before dates from May 25 to June 6.

Butcher's Cut frozen ground beef patties 1.13 kilogram with the UPC 58200 21604 and a Julian code date of 143 sold on and after May 24 in Western Canada and in Ontario west of Thunder Bay.

Sunny Dawn frozen ground beef patties bearing Julian date 143-07 sold on or after May 24 at some independent grocery stores in Western Canada, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and in Ontario west of Thunder Bay.

You can find out more information from your local store or from the CFIA website.
