Deterrent at the flip of a page!

Drink and Drive and you might make page five. Well actually it’s probably page two or three, but none of that rhymes with drive.

The Daily News had a story on page two of the Wednesday paper on a new initiative of the local RCMP detachment, which may serve as a good deterrent for those that still insist on drinking and driving.

With the ever present message about drinking and driving apparently falling on deaf ears, the Mounties plan on releasing the names of people who make their first court appearances to face charges of impaired driving.

The Daily didn’t state in the story if they plan on publishing the names when they are released by the RCMP. Though we suspect it might be a natural fit with their
“The Beat’ feature, the listing of crime that stalks the city.

The ‘Don’t Drink and Drive’ message just doesn’t seem to be getting through to some people, say police.

As a result, the detachment will begin releasing people’s names once they make their first court appearance in Prince Rupert.

The first batch of individuals- who were charged during the holiday season for drinking and driving offences – will have their names released to the public next week, say officers.
