The Bill Good Show on CKNW used the first forty minutes of Thursday's program to take a look back at the events of the early morning of March 22, 2006 off of Gil Island.
Good interviewed reporter Stephen Smart who has been tasked with charting the story from the first reports of the sinking of the Queen of the North, through the various investigations that have taken place. They discussed the many emotions that were prominent in the days following the tragedy, the loss of life and the slow process of trying to find out what happened that night.
Good also had couple of Prince Rupert guests on the segment, Bruce Wishart of Tourism Prince Rupert and Roberta Bowman of the Chamber of Commerce, provided their impressions of the impact of the sinking and their thoughts on what the future holds for the tourism sector.
Both seemed very happy with the arrival of a new vessel to the North coast route, the Northern Adventure. A vessel they believe more than exceeds their expectations and which they feel will provide a great boost to local tourism.
You can listen in to the interviews by checking out the CKNW Audio vault, click on Thursday, March 22 and selecting the 8-9 hour, there is also a portion of the 9-10 hour used on the story, where Wishart looks to the future and what he expects will result from the replacement service to the coast.
