Prince George's newest sports offering took to the indoor pitch on Saturday as the Prince George Fury kicked off their Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League season with a double header against the Tacoma Stars.
Success however would elude Prince George in their indoor soccer debut as they dropped both matches with Tacoma by scores of 9-8 and 6-2.
The Fury play in Prince George's CN Centre which has a capacity of 5,967 which on Saturday wouldn't provide much of a workload for the Fire Marshall, announced attendance for the double header was 1600 for the 2 pm match and 1800 for the 7:30 pm nightcap.
There are a number of northwest players listed on the Fury roster taking their game to the indoor version of the sport, former Prince Rupert resident Shawn Basi (all be it a former Rupertite at an apparently very young age) is listed as a defender, the 25 year old wears number twelve for the Fury and you can watch his entrance in the introductions found below. (Father Cal, a former Rupert resident, also made his CMISL debut, as he was the on field official at the match on Saturday night)
.
Terrace gains representation from Midfielder Joseph Lavoie while the final Northwest face on the Fury is Tyson Williams.
From a little further down Highway 16, Burns Lake's Danny Dell is also listed on the Fury's 23 man roster, though under CMISL rules, only 13 players dress for any match.
The Fury take to the road for their next action, a return engagement with Tacoma on January 16 and a trip to Wenatchee on the 17th.
For those interested, Saturday's action is available online as a web cast, a version of which we discovered here from the Prince George Fury website. (if that doesn't work try this one we found on the San Francisco Examiner site of all places).
.
The Fury play a twelve game schedule which comes to an end on February 21st.
