City Council scoresheet for January 11, 2010

The Wednesday, January 13 edition of the Daily News featured their regular scorecard on city council issues, this one featuring the deliberations and votes from selected items of the January 11 session.

This weeks feature appeared on page three of the Wednesday edition, all members of council were present and accounted for .

Question One: A letter from the City of Prince Rupert expressing concerns over the proposed Tsawwassen extension of BC Ferries Route 10, known as Route 10A, and its negative impact on toursim industry, as well as the loss of jobs in the community that will result by changing the point of assembly for crewing ships from Prince Rupert to Tsawwassen, will be sent to Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Shirley Bond.

Question Two: Council accepted donation of cardio and other gym equipment, valued at approximately $60,000 from Northern Health's former Healthy Heart Program, to compliment the recreation programming at the City's Recreation Complex. The proposed area to relocate the equipment would be the viewing area, presently vacant except for birthday party rentals.

Question Three: Council determined the value of the Community Enhancement Grants for some of the major grant recipients. Prince Rupert Golf Society: $72,750, Lester Centre of the Arts: $110,000, Prince Rupert Library: $500,000 and $9,000 for the library's vest benefit accrual, and Prince Rupert Economic Development Commission: $90,000.

Council asked the City Manager to find out more information regarding the time of meetings and will choose and elected official for the group after receiving that information.
