21 year old male arrested, charged and released in wake of Saturday night violence

The post mortem on the violence of early Sunday morning on the east side of town have begun with Prince Rupert RCMP attributing some of the cause to the disturbance to alcohol and drugs.
.
A 21 year old Prince Rupert resident was arrested, charged and released after a wild Sunday morning on the streets of 5th Avenue East. On its website today, CFTK News reported Cory Alexander O'Connor as the arrested party, charged with four counts of assaulting a police officer.

As we outlined on the blog early Sunday morning, a house party in the 200 block of 5th east turned violent after RCMP officers attended to a noise complaint from the neighbourhood and decided to bring the nights activities to an end.
.
By the time all was wrapped up, two police officers had suffered injuries after the crowd reacted in a hostile nature to the arrest of what was described as a combative male. During the course of the violent outbreak, the use of pepper spray was required twice by police and a number of police vehicles sustained significant damage after a crowd of people ages 16-25, estimated at between 150 to 200 turned against the officers attending.

The incident began shortly before 1 am and it took 11 officers in total (a number of which were brought in off duty) to bring the situation under control. The Northern View provided the first of the Prince Rupert media accounts of the confrontation, posted to their website earlier today, there was no mention of the incident in Monday's Daily News, nor on its website.
.
More arrests could result from Sunday mornings troubles, in its account of the night's events the Northern View has outlined how a female attendee, who is known to police, was observed jumping on top of one of the cruisers and will be facing charges.

The event quickly become the talk of the city in the less than 48 hours that it took place, with a good portion of the debate playing out on the local hackingthemainframe portal.
