So this is Mr. Pond's plan for the future!

The first glimpse of life after the Mayoralty came from an unusual source on Monday, as a participant in the Daily News local page three feature "The Daily Discussion" seemed to confirm what most folks have speculated about over the last two months or so.

The future for our soon to be former mayor came in an answer to the Daily's question of "Were you disappointed when you learned that Mayor Herb Pond will not be seeking re-election?

Respondent Frank Visentin let the political cat out of the bag with his reply of:

No, because I think he can do a lot more on the provincial scene. I recently signed his nomination papers to be a candidate for the provincial Liberal party.

So with the would be nominee semi-officially introduced, we anxiously await Mr. Pond's observations on the change of political direction for him personally and what he hopes to achieve for the region under the banner of Gordon Campbell's Liberals.

It will be interesting to see how his time as Mayor is reviewed with the cushion of the seven months until next Springs provincial election and if he proves to be successful in securing the nomination and the opportunity to engage incumbent NDP MLA Gary Coons in debate on the issues of importance to the North Coast.
