Alanis Morrisette-My Humps
Tonight on the Music Club a little intra band rivalry. We feature a video that has been rocketing around the YouTube universe this past week, a torch song rendition by Alanis Morrisette of the Black Eyed Peas hit of last year My Humps.
It’s a video release that was timed for April Fool’s Day and spoofs the famous Fergie and her clan with the bump and grind hip hop standard they made famous, done to a slow almost mournful sound it’s about as opposite to the Black Eyed Peas version as you can get.
At the time of the original’s release it was panned as a sad commentary on the state of hip hop and the lifestyle, which of course was greeted by huge sales and massive downloads from the likes of the iPod generation and such, so much for the critics!
To refresh your memory here’s the original version from the Black Eyed Peas, now compare that to the angst ridden tribute from the Morrisette foundry and sign up for your side of the latest would be outburst in the hip hop wars.
Depending on what you read or what you listen to, Alanis is showing her disdain for the hip hop stylings or just having a good laugh at her own image’s expense or maybe both.
Regardless, it makes for an interesting if rather strange interpretation of the song. Though we hope that this bit of gentle mockery doesn’t turn into one of those famous hip hop feuds which Law and Order have been making famous of late...
