Podunk Below the Masthead November 2006

A daily look at the BIG TYPE headline of the Podunkian Daily News. We'll list that day's BIG STORY, the one the Daily puts out in the big type just below it's masthead, for all Podunkians to ponder. There will be a link to this feature on the right hand side of the blog. On Wednesdays and Friday's you can access all the stories of the Daily News on their website, on the remaining days you end up at a dead end, asking you to go purchase your paper, for (as Paul Harvey would say) the rest of the story.

November 30--REZONING MULLED AS LARGER MALL PROJECT TAKES SHAPE--The Royop shopping village project becomes the talk of council, with councillor Thorkelson expressing concerns over the impact of the shopping mecca on the downtown core. (see story here)

November 29--SKATERS IN SHOCK AFTER DEATH OF 16 YEAR OLD GIRL--The murder of a popular figure skater in Kitimat last week, left many local skaters in shock as they gathered there for a weekend event. (see story here)

November 28--B. C. DOCKS GETTING BEHIND NEW PUSH FOR ‘SUPER PORT’--The three major ports of the Lower Mainland begin discussions on a merger and designation as BC's Super Port. The story is the headline story of the day in the Daily News. (see story here)

November 27--PREMIER ATTACKED FOR PLAN TO EXPLOIT B.C. OIL AND GAS--The Premier shared a bit of a vision of oil and gas development in BC with his Asian hosts this past week, a vision that many back home haven't quite signed on with just yet. November 24--LOGBOOK OUTCRY A BIG MIX UP SAYS WOULD-BE-SELLER--The seller of the suddenly controversial Queen of the North items finds himself under a bit of a siege, claiming it's all just a misunderstanding (see story here)

November 23--ONLINE AUCTION OF QUEEN OF NORTH LOG BOOKS' PROBED--An online poster to the Ebay on line auction site causes a bit of controversy in Prince Rupert (see story here)

November 22--LOSS OF REMAINING FERRY DRAWS IRE OF MLA COONS--The local MLA expresses his dismay at the state of the ferry service in Northern BC (see story here)

November 21--CAMPBELL SELLING PACIFIC DREAM ON HIS TOUR OF ASIA--The Premier is on tour a whirlwind visit to all points Asian, doing the Team BC thing selling the merits of our province as the place to do business. The Daily News featured a story from Miro Cernetig on it's front page for Tuesday (see story here)

November 20--RUPERT SET TO REAP BENEFIT FROM NEW GRAIN CENTRE--An Edmonton rail yard is the new home for a grain distribution centre that will benefit the container port in 2007 ( see story here)

November 17--HUGE ROTARY FUNDRAISER STIRS UP LOTS OF EXCITEMENT--The annual rotary auction is back on the air on Channel 10 and CHTK, the Daily has the details (see story here)

November 16--NEW WORKERS WILL HELP CITY COLLECT PARKING FINES--The City hires on new staff to crack down on parking and other bylaw infractions. (see story here)
