Now I don't want to come across as a prude. In fact I'm fully in favour of freedom of speech and freedom to advertise. But with a bit of common sense thrown in for good measure. Somehow I'm thinking that there probably were a few phone calls made to the Daily News this morning, after the Thursday paper made it to the homes of Podunk.
Page Three as always featured some local stories, which featured the success of the young people of the city. A picture of the student council at Lax Kxeen Elementary and another one featuring the accomplishments of the Science 8 class at Charles Hays Senior Secondary. The kind of photos and articles that proud parents clip and place on the fridge.
But its probably the third picture on page three that was getting all the attention, an ad for the Belmont featuring the talented Anita Margarita in what one would call an enticing pose on behalf of the Third Avenue establishment.
With a fourteen page edition published on Thursday, we're pretty sure there could have been another more appropriate page for the ad. A page perhaps that isn't the first stop of the day for kids looking to see their picture in the paper, and a page that wouldn't leave parents having to explain the lady in her bathing suit crawling around a floor.
The ad will no doubt serve its purpose, it will generate a lot of attention. Perhaps more for the Daily News than for the Belmont!
