Crash west of Carwash rock results in fatality

A single vehicle accident just west of Car wash rock on Highway sixteen has resulted in the death of one of two of the occupants of the westbound car.

The accident took place around 6 am on Friday morning, with the vehicle leaving the highway and going into the Skeena River, one of the occupants was able to exit the vehicle with only minor injuries, recovery efforts are ongoing to bring the car to shore and recover the other occupant.

During the course of the early stages of the investigation, Highway 16 had been closed, but has since reopened to single lane traffic.

No names have been released and the Terrace Standard is reporting that RCMP officials suggest that speed may have been a contributing factor in the accident.
