We’re beginning to wonder if the various federal parties might have been offering one of those in store specials with favourite breakfast cereals, in selected packages you too could be a nominee for the House of Parliament.
The carnage on the political highway is piling up as the federal election campaign moves on towards the October 14th finish line.
At last count (and this is a floating number depending on the latest developments) nine, ooops make that ten candidates now, have withdrawn or have been dumped in the trunk of a car and taken off to the political woods.
Two more candidates on Sunday withdrew their participation in the political process, asked to please refrain from representing the party, or in the case of an Independent candidate in BC, forced out due the actions of law enforcement as they say on Cops.
Providing a sideshow for Canadians as we watch some of the lesser lights of the political gene pool fall by the way side, perhaps the largest batch of non contenders ever to leave the political stage before the counting of votes has started.
The NDP continue to suffer the ultimate of stereotypes as candidates for the Jack Pack have withdrawn their candidacies due to past troubles with marijuana or bouts of nakedness and now potty mouth disease as tracked through on line social networks. Not earth shattering charges but combined with a few other high profile campaign stumbles, still something that perhaps could have come up during the vetting process.

So far Smilin' Jack has had to stamp cancel on four nomination forms, reducing that potential swell of support that Mr. Layton feels is about to sweep him into 24 Sussex Drive.
The Conservatives of course are never a stranger to controversy it seems and yet more troubles have arrived on their doorstep, though as of yet their total number of drop outs is still at two and their troubles haven't seemed to reduce their lead in the polls.

Among the departed ones are a candidate in Halifax with a few legal woes to sort out and one in the Toronto region who perhaps should have stayed off the blogs prior to his campaign.
The Liberals too have found that loose cannons can’t always be controlled, two candidates in Quebec who provided unorthodox viewpoints on recent Aboriginal relations in Quebec and the Aboriginal diaspora in the province were asked to leave by Stephane Dion.

The latest former Liberal to get the punt from the stable was Lesley Hughes, a Winnipeg candidate with a colourful past and perhaps a rather conspiracy minded approach to world events.
.
She joins the list of those previously dumped by Dion, though she apparently plans to soldier on as an Independent, even though it seems that may not actually be possible due to the late stage of the election campaign.
The Greens have had a few close calls including a candidate with a rather interesting past in Nunavut and some rather controversial uttering’s by Ottawa area candidates, and in fact Elizabeth May rode one would be candidate off the rails, before she took to the rails on a Cross Canada rail trek to rival Sir John A. MacDonald's’s last great journey across the Dominion.

May however hasn’t actually tossed anyone currently campaigning over the side just yet, perhaps because the Green’s don’t anticipate any major breakthroughs and just having someone to carry the flag sometimes means looking the other way on the more controversial things.
And the latest of those who won't stand to serve is an Independent candidate in BC, who has apparently walked away from the campaign; this after Police in Delta processed him with a set of four sex related charges, with a court appearance date that pulls in just after voting day on the 14th.
All together ten out of the many hundreds that are seeking out office in the 304 ridings across the nation, ten candidates judged slightly less up to standard we guess than the rest, though they really did seem to try to attract attention on the wrong platforms…
And they aren't alone, the ten that have been turfed, are just the more visible ones, judged as to hot to campaign with. That list doesn't include those numerous candidates that found themselves in hot water during the campaign, but managed to weather the storms, apparently aware that some other bonehead or stumblebum would soon take them off the front pages.
So it would seem that the only question to remain as far as the chosen ones goes, is if these folks found their nomination papers in a Rice Krispies, Shreddies, Cocoa Puffs or Frosted Flakes box…
The lost and we suspect, the not particularly lamented with their departure dates :
NDP-- West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea-to-Sky Country-- Dana Larsen (Sept 17)
