Elton John-- Saturday night's alright for fighting
Well we're a couple of days behind on our weekend musical interlude, such was the workload of the blogs this weekend.
But better late than never, here we are and with all the interest in the weekend activities in the downtown area, we figured what better song than Elton John's mid seventies classic.
Saturday night's alright for fighting was a song that grabbed the attention of the listener, providing a break from his standard ballad formula and introducing a bit of rock and roll into the Yellow Brick road. This song was the action piece to the album magic that Goodbye Yellow Brick road was, one of the major recordings of the seventies era and still considered to be one of John's most important recordings of his long and varied career.
Much like Crocodile Rock which picked up on it's fifties sound, Saturday night became the rocking anthem for many a young person heading out on the town in the seventies, perhaps imbibing a little too much and getting into trouble. Though nowhere in it's four minutes and some odd seconds of toe tapping energy does a window seem to get smashed.
It was one of the soundtracks to youthful rebellion of the seventies, a concise definition of young emotions running on overdrive, though nowhere in it's four minutes and some odd seconds of toe tapping energy does a window seem to get smashed.
Saturday night was always one of the most popular songs played at an Elton John concert, the tune guaranteed to get the audience up on their feet, able to cut loose from the reverence normally provided for the introspective pieces that made John's early career.
Most of all though, it's just a great little rock tune with one of those opening riffs that tells you this one is going to be all movement..
