Five for the show, so far...

The Kaien Island Youth Council's premiere attraction, Prince Rupert Idol is set for another run this spring.

The event which is the Council's main fundraiser for the year will take place on at the Lester Centre on Sat., April 19, the doors open at 7 p.m. and show will start at 7:30.

Admission to Prince Rupert Idol is by donation and the Youth council uses the proceeds from the event to help fund a number of projects around the community.

So far five brave Rupertites have stepped up to take part, though registration is still ongoing so those ready to take to the stage at the Lester Centre still have time to put their name forward.

The Daily news provided some background on the event in Friday's paper.

Talented young Rupertites will be in the spotlight this month during the sixth-annual Prince Rupert Idol.

So far, five talented singers have signed up for this year's event, with more expected to follow.
"This is our fundraising event for the year for the Kaien Island Youth Council (KIYC)," said Treena Decker.

"That includes events like Blockstock, workshops that we hold throughout the year, and this summer we are going to be working on some very cool projects with Communities in Bloom."
The event takes place at the Lester Centre on Sat., April 19, with admission by donation. The doors open at 7 p.m. and show will start at 7:30 p.m.

"It's going to be a really fun night," she said.

So far, competitors in KIYC's friendly version of TV's 'idol' contest include Caitlund Catterall, Robin Hansen, Jaimee Aubee, Summer Johansen and Morganne Snook. However, the KIYC is still taking registrations.

Usually, they have between eight and 12 competitors, aged 13 to 29, performing for the judges.
This year's judges include Alison O'Toole, the CBC's Russell Bowers and a yet-to-be-named musician of local fame.

Each participant will perform and will be judged on their stage presence, appearance, choice of song and overall performance.

They will receive feedback from the judges, and - in addition to competing for first, second and third place - each entrant will be recognized for their contribution to the program.

"The idea is to support the youth council and youth talent," said Decker. "We have a lot of really talented youth in the community. We chose singing because there are not that many events that highlight vocal talent but young people in this town have talents in many other areas as well."
