McDonald's has only our best interests at heart, or maybe our hearts in their best interests, or perhaps their lawyers advised that our hearts weren't in their best interests. At any rate, the days of the SuperSize may be over.
By the end of this year, all 13,000 McDonald's outlets in the USA will no longer serve supersize fries and soft drinks. No word if the edict will affect the chain's Cross Canada franchisees. The restaurant chain says it is trying to help it's customers achieve a more balanced life style. The chain has already provided yogurts and salads to the menu to help us make the "healthy choice".
Over the last year the heat has been turned up on the fast food giant, as obesity and diabetes rates increase, the World Health Organization blaming high calorie, low nutrient foods for all our ills. The idea that we're basically gluttonous trough divers, not coming to the top of the list.
So McDonald's is going to get ahead of the curve and take away our temptation. Not sure if they'll also impose a 1 soft drink, 1 french fry minimum to keep us from doubling up the orders, doubling our calories and of course doubling their profits.
