It's reassuring to know that when Democracy is at threat, that the police will be standing by to assist with the process. Where you ask is this show of force necessary?
Haiti, where riots in the streets and where departed politicians have left things rather tenuous? Well possibly but that's not it. Afghanistan then you say, a war torn country only now starting to return to some semblance of normalcy? Yes, that too could be a soild choice, but sorry no it's not the right answer. Ok, you get it now, Baghdad or Caracas, surely they will need the efforts of the law, to tame lawless situations. Well again, you are wise, yes they too could use some semblance of law and order to aid in their everyday lives? But nope that's not it.
Police will be standing by Saturday night in Hamilton East-Stoney creek! Yep, the Copps/Valeri grudge match comes to it's conclusion this weekend and officials are anticipating every possibility. The nomination battle has been an ugly, contentious affair, with each side claiming the right to represent the re-distributed riding. At one time Sheila even thought out loud about joining the NDP, a path she chose not to take. Setting up the Showdown in Steeltown, The Battle of Stoney Creek if you will, on Saturday Night.
With an anticipated crowd of possibly 10,000 people expected. Liberal officials have hired off duty Hamilton-Wentworth police officers to handle traffic duties, crowd control and any unwanted unruliness. I guess the JTF 2 boys and girls were too busy in Haiti, to be placed where they are really needed!
