Slate's Fred Kaplan does a fascinating job of interpreting Monday's Presidential Press Conference. That pitch and catch session between George Bush, Condi Rice and the Presidential traveling press gallery left more than a few observers wondering what it was that was said, what it meant and if it made any difference anyways!
Never it seems at his best in a press conference situation, President Bush didn't exactly leave his nation (or the world for that matter) with a clear indication as to where he thought the hot topic of the day (that war between Israel and Hezbollah) was going to lead us all to.
In fact he seemed to get himself off topic from time to time, leaving it up to the Secretary of State to come in and try to steer the press (and the public watching on TV) back onto the path that the administration was heading towards.
For those that missed the actual broadcast, Kaplan fills in the blanks and offers his analysis of the Five W's of Presidential press coverage.
