Peter 1, Belinda 0?

With the Conservatives riding high in the polls with one week to go in the election campaign, the only thing that might make Peter McKay smile even more, would be the sight of old beau Belinda, going down to electoral defeat.

Belinda Stronach, the former Conservative MP who saved Paul Martin’s hide in May, and found herself a Cabinet Minister in return, could soon find herself an ex cabinet minister very shortly.

Stronach appeared on CTV’s Question period Sunday, telling CTV’s Craig Oliver that regardless of the vote one week from Monday, she plans to stay in politics should she retain her seat and yes (in case anyone might be wondering), she plans to stay a Liberal. She played it rather coy when asked if she would be interested in the top job should her boss be asked to resign following a post election post mortem. Having run for the leadership of one party (the guys and gals that may form a government in one week) it's not beyond the realm of possibility that she may try again for her current band of brothers and sisters.

And while the Conservatives are probably inclined to see her defeated, there is most likely one group of Canadians hoping against hope, that somehow Belinda hangs on to her seat.

The folks at the Royal Canadian Air Farce probably couldn’t create a character with so much potential for another season or two of find comedy. Belinda chasing Martin’s dream could keep the Air Farce scriptwriters in material for a full Parliamentary term. Heck, Jessica Holmes could probably build a career on Belinda sightings alone.

When Canadians go to the polls on the 23rd, the crew at Air Farce might saying may the Farce be with Belinda!
