In the end, Mayor Herb Pond got his wish, with the exception of councilor Jack Rudolph, Pond's council compatriots all were returned to City Council and for the most part by rather comfortable margins.
The Mayor who trounced his competitor Gloria Rendell by a vote total of 3377 to 693 will look around that chamber at the next meeting and see his old pals, Ken, Kathy, Tony and Nelson still settling in for another night of riveting debate and civic boosterism. Joining the returning four, will be newcomers Sheila Gordon-Payne and Joy Thorkelson. Jack Rudolph's wishes of returning for another term were dashed, as Thorkelson edged him aside by 88 votes.
We'll digest the results and offer up a post mortem of the campaign in the days to come, as well as take a look at what the results may mean for Podunk's civic governance over the next three years.
To tide you faithful Podunkians over til then, check out the city's election page here, and see how your favourite candidate fared in Podunk 2005.
