Rhoda Witherly appointed as college chair
Northwest Community College is tapping Rhoda Whitherly's vast experience in the Northwest to help spread the word of the achievements in education in the region, as the college appoints her as the new Chair of the Northwest Community College Board of Governors.
Ms. Witherly has been the Prince Rupert community representative on the board since 2007, bringing a strong resume of community involvement to her new position as Chair.
A public notary and manager of registry and document service agency in the city, she has been an active participant in many facets of Prince Rupert's political and economic scene over the years.
A former city councillor for eight years as well a director with Skeena Queen Charlotte Regional District, she has also worked on and with a number of community groups over the years, from the building committee for the Performing Arts Centre, to the Museum of Northern British Columbia, Port of Prince Rupert, Ridley Terminals and served on a number of health and heritage committees in the city.
All of that past experience will be called on as the college seeks to gain more awareness of the unique nature of their regional campuses and its goal of providing educational opportunities that might otherwise not be made available.
She will serve a two year term as Chair of the Board, replacing the departing Irene Seguin.
