The Prince Rupert Rampage dropped two points behind the Terrace River Kings and the Kitimat Ice Demons in the CIHL standings this weekend, after ending up on the losing side of a 5-2 score Saturday night. '
With Kitimat sweeping both games of a weekend double header with the Hazelton Woverines, the Ice Demons jumped over the Rampage to join the River Kings atop Ice Demons in the CIHL Western Division standings.
The Rampage had high hopes of handing the slumping River Kings a home ice loss, but the River Kings were quick to reverse their fortunes of late, scoring once in the first period to set the pace and never seemed to look back, grabbing two goals in the second and two more in the third to hand the Rampage their first loss in three games in front of a crowd listed as 600 at the Terrace Arena.
Terrace jumped to a 2-0 lead before Rupert could get on the scoresheet, finishing off the second period with a 3-2 lead in the close fought game.
A quick start to the third period provided book end goals for Terrace with their fourth goal of the game scored in the first minute of the third, while the fifth and final one was registered in the thirty seconds of the game.
Prince Rupert's goals, which both came in the second period were scored by JT Ward and Stephen Lawrence, his marker the only successful power play goal of the night for the Rampage who could only take advantage of the extra man on the ice once in their five opportunities. Terrace was 0-6 when they had the man advantage.
Keith Movold was tagged with the loss, surrendering the five goals on thirty shots during the course of Saturday nights game.
The Rampage can try to reclaim first overall in the West when next see action on the weekend, as they travel to Hazelton for two games with the Wolverines on Saturday and Sunday.
