The 135,078 dollar kids

City Hall has released the earnings report of our six local councilors and Mayor for 2007, combining both the regular salary and travel expenses to give us an idea as to what we pay and what we get from this years class of 2007.

Not surprisingly considering his position, Mayor Herb Pond leads the class, with a salary of $36,237.24 and Travel and expenses money of $12,057. 84; making for a total of $48,295.08 in reported cost.

Tony Briglio was second on the pay parade, as he pulled in the regular stipend of $11,245 plus travel and expenses of 6,133.90; the grand total reported for the councilor was $17,378.90.

Kathy Bedard followed Councillor Briglio in the travel and expense arrangements, combining her salary of $11,245 with the extra cash of $5,107.18 for a total of $16,352.18.

Councillor Nelson Kinney was next up to the pay window with his salary of $11,245 and travel and expenses of $4,026.87, bringing his total annual reported payday to $15,271.87.
At $13,067.28 Councillor Joy Thorkelson holds down the fifth spot on the City’s accounts payable ledger, combining her base salary of $ 11,245 with travelling and expense cash of 1,822.28.

Sheila Gordon-Payne collected a total of $12,716.26 in municipal remuneration in 2007 with $1,471.26 to go with her salary of $11,245.

Councillor Ken Cote wraps up the payday report, the parsimonious councilor only claimed $751.43 dollars on travel and expenses, making his take home pay for the year just short of $12,000 dollars at $11,996.43.

Grand total for council’s efforts in the last year was $135,078.

The numbers were published as part of the agenda for tonight’s Council meeting, where the councilors will learn more about the cost of running a municipal government. It is submitted to council for approval as required by the Financial Information Act. Council will also be asked to set July 7th as the night for a pulic meeting on the annual report.

Included on the agenda for perusal tonight beyond the council salary check list, is a list of all employees making over $75,000 (Page 23 of the agenda). Those numbers have been broken down by salary and expenses/training allowances.
.
Also in the package is the listing of the various grants to such things as the Lester Centre for the Arts and the Golf course to name a few (Page 24 of the agenda).
.
Everyones favourite discussion topic CityWest, also gets a quick once over with a report on its financials provided online (Pages 47, 48, 49, 52 and 60 of the agenda).
.
You can access all of that and much more from the City’s website here; it makes for a very interesting look at where those tax dollars we all contribute are being allocated and what we're getting for our investment in participatory democracy.
