Opening day for Prince George Intermodal Centre

The were celebrating in Prince George on Saturday, as CN officially opened their Intermodal Centre with a wide assortment of officials in tow to sing the praises of the new facility.

Opinion 250 has a complete report on the grand opening including video of the operation and the opening remarks that saluted its arrival on the transportation scene for the North.

The Centre will be used primarily to load containers with products from the North east and Central Interior of the product for shipment through to Prince Rupert. It is one of the side benefits of the Prince Rupert container port that have come to the Central Interior city.

CN recently expanded their workforce in the city to take advantage of the new transportation corridor that travels from the West Coast through Western Canada and into the south eastern United States. So far the new 20 million dollar centre in Prince George has created 60 new jobs to start, with hopes that they may expand the job opportunities in the years ahead.

Interestingly enough in his remarks, Port CEO Don Krusel said that the port hopes to expand by 2020. Which is probably a tad slower than many in Northern BC might like to see.

The Prince George Citizen also covered the Grand opening today on their website.
