Vehicle crash on Highway 16 claims two lives


The RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a motor vehicle accident on Highway 16 on Friday night which claimed the lives of two people and sent two others to hospital.

Shortly after 9:30 Friday night, a Chevrolet Cavalier left the highway and overturned around the 75 kilometre mark on Highway 16, west of Polymar. One of the two deceased is reported to have been thrown from the vehicle during the course of the incident.

Police officers from both the Prince Rupert and Terrace detachments responded to the call and turned the investigation over to the North District Criminal Crash Investigation Team.

No names, or hometowns of the victims have been released as of yet and the investigation continues into the cause of the accident.

As a result of the crash, Highway 16 was closed to traffic overnight until 3:12 Saturday morning .
