With Prince Rupert feeling the effects of a reduced ferry service and waiting patiently for the replacement vessel for the Queen of the North, it's interesting to look at our northern neighbours and of the importance they place and their dependence on a coastal ferry system.
The Alaska Marine Highway System is one of the keys to travel up and down the Alaskan coast, the Sitka News put together a fairly informative bit of history on it's website. Complete with pictures and colourful stories about the early days, it's a great testimony to travel from Rupert to the far reaches of Alaska, check it out here.
