Aye, Captain Stubing, there be trouble on the port side bow

Well this is certainly a problem that Julie, Isaac, Gopher, Doc and the good Captain never had to deal with on the Love Boat. Saturday morning saw a Cruise ship off the coast of Somalia fend off an attack by would be pirates.

The Seabourn Spirit found itself under attack from two speed boats that raced towards it early Saturday morning firing machine guns and rocket propelled grenades. The Captain of the ship maneuvered his ship so as to avoid any attempted boarding, while the crew initiated procedures designed to give the attackers cause to think they were being shot at themselves. Using an onboard loud acoustic bang, the ships company presented a sense of control of the situation that ended with the pirates abandoning their attempted hijacking.

Seabourn Cruises has decided to no longer travel into the afflicted area of the Somali coast, a portion of ocean that has seen an increase in piracy ever since the Somalia government collapsed a number of years ago.

Perhaps Disney might think of taking up the route, after all they have had a bit of experience with Pirates in their day.

Pirate Attacks are not a very common thing in the cruise industry, but one thing I'm sure of is that had the Love Boat faced this kind of situation, things would have been handled well. If nothing else Isaac would have been one busy, busy bartender.
