Bennett’s Potty fingers lead to his resignation

British Columbia’s Mines minister tendered his resignation on Tuesday, after some second and apparently regretful thoughts over an e mail penned to a constituent over the weekend.

Bill Bennett, the Junior Minister for Mining in the Gordon Campbell government received an e mail from a Fernie veterinarian who is also the president of the Fernie Rod and Gun club, the message was to the effect that Bennett was not doing enough to help local hunters and apparently hit a raw nerve with the Cabinet Minister who had spent the weekend lobbying on behalf of that same group.

Feeling a tad unappreciated we assume, Bennett logged onto the reply and released what is described as a profanity laced tirade against the constituent.

There are various reports as to what it is that Bennett said, but the gist of it seems to be a questioning of the veterinarian’s loyalty to Canada (he’s apparently originally from the US), suggesting he very well may be a spy (for the Department of Wildlife we guess) and some scatological commentary befitting a high school kid testing his parents will.

The Premier was quick to defend his now ex minister, but most likely realizing the optics of the situation didn’t say “let’s ride out the storm”, in fact he was quickly purged from the Cabinet line up page on the Government web site, but not from the bio section yet.

In the end, Bennett has no one but himself to blame, he's had a rather short fuse for a long time now and finds himself in trouble more often than not. As well. he’s not the first person to fire off a e mail in reply without thinking of the consequences, as he puts it “I blew my cool and e-mail is just too easy,”

And as we’ve learned from this, one dash of temper and it’s just as easy to lose your job!
Update: The Public eye website, features the correspondence that Mr. Bennett probably wishes he never made.
