What, Me Worry?

Dear Leader Kim Jung Il, must be feeling a little nervous these days. He’s thumbed his nose at the Americans for a number of years now, and for the most part been able to milk the attention for all it is worth. But the times may be changing for North Korea’s troublesome leader, all of a sudden George Bush isn't his biggest worry.

Instead of the Americans and various other nations of interest complaining about his behavior and lack of good will to the International community, it’s the neighbors to the north who are starting to tire of his antics. And that means big trouble for Dear Leader.

The rumblings out of Beijing of late, seem to be preparing the skids for a less than graceful exit for him from the international scene. All four Chinese banks have stopped all financial transactions with the North, which could quickly bring the government to its knees.

Chinese border guards have taken to inspecting North Korean trucks which cross over the border frontier between the two nations and the Chinese government says that it is willing to enforce sanctions (all be it watered down ones) against North Korea.

The Chinese have warned North Korea that a second nuclear test would not be in the nation’s best interests, a stern tone that seems to have had some success with the reclusive leader of North Korea.

Kin Jung Il is reported to have expressed regret to the Chinese for the surprise test last week and said that no further tests are planned.

China which has been looking for a reason to begin to flex its muscles on the world stage has found a perfect opening to make its leadership debut. Reigning in a nation that it has spent a good portion of its time protecting, and now suggesting that if the nation doesn’t play ball properly then nothing but bad luck could be coming their way.

With the great celebrations of this week out of the way for the North, Kim Jung Il might be thinking of keeping a lower profile. He’s annoyed a very important ally and one that seems ready to push the Dear Leader aside if need be.

It’s one thing to tease the big dog living on the other side of the street, but when you start to tease the one from the yard next door, then somebody is going to get bit.
Kim Jung Il may wish to make sure that he respects his neighbourhood, its liable to get a little dangerous for him if he continues down his current path.
