I don't often come to the defense of the American film industry, far too many dogs of a movie have passed through my DVD player, or over the Movie Channels for me to be too worried about its success or failure.
But the idea of filming a Big Screen version of Dallas anywhere but in Big D seems rather silly.
Even funnier is the idea that Toronto could double as Dallas in the soon to be cast (John Travolta as JR, Shirley McLaine as Miss Ellie and J Lo as Sue Ellen?) epic tale of the Ewing clan and its devious allies and enemies.
Now it's true that Toronto has stood in for New York, Chicago and any other big American city short of tropical locations, but really come on, try as they might even the most devious of Bay Street executives couldn't hold a candle to the Texan charms of JR.
Toronto no doubt has many advantages (monetary, locations, crew and such) for any film company seeking to film the Ewing extravaganza, but authenticity demands that it should probably locate right in the cold heart of the Texas Oil Industry.
Hard as it is to admit it, sometimes Canada can't compete! And if any film should stay below the 49th it's the epic reconstruction of the troubles and triumphs of JR Ewing. It just wouldn't be the same to have a ya'll tacked on with an Eh! at the end of every sentence!
