We'll have our pom poms ready for Mr. Mason

Prince Rupert has a cheering interest in this years Jack Webster B. C. Journalism awards, as the Globe and Mail's feature writer Gary Mason, has been nominated for the Jack Webster Business, Industry & Economics Award.

Mr. Mason travelled north to Rupert in 2007 to examine the state of Prince Rupert's economy and the new hope that the Fairview Container Terminal offered, his observations provided national attention to Prince Rupert and resonated with the judging panel to merit nomination for this years awards.

The category he is nominated in has two other finalists, Lena Sin, from The Vancouver Province for her article, Priced out. Patrick Brown rounds out the trio of nominees with his work for Island Tides, an article called Sub-prime fraud made simple.

Mr. Mason was also nominated for a features award for his work on the crisis in Guatemala.
.
We travel back in the Podunkian archives to review his work from the Globe and Mail of September of 2007.
