Mayor Pond receives a glowing endorsement from the North

“We are pleased to extend a lifetime membership to Mayor Pond, as he has been an active participant in our organization for many years. He has brought good will and hopes for new and continuing partnerships between Southeast Alaska and Prince Rupert.”— Shelly Wright, the Executive Director of the Southeast Conference, outlining that organizations respect and admiration for Prince Rupert’s Mayor.

The Southeast Alaska Conference has awarded a lifetime membership into the organization to Mayor Herb Pond, based on his work over the years on behalf of the City of Prince Rupert in strengthening ties with the communities to the north along the Alaska panhandle.

The Mayor was provided with his membership during last week’s annual conference, which was hosted by Prince Rupert.

Shelly Wright, the executive director of the Southeast Conference was quite glowing in her praise, as she described the Mayor’s involvement with the Conference over the years and the contributions that Prince Rupert has made to the organization’s success.

Improving and growing the ties between Prince Rupert and Alaska has been one of the Mayors main focuses over his time in office. He has been a frequent advocate for better transportation links and improved communication with the neighbouring communities to the north.

He has regularly reminded local residents and the provincial government about the importance of Prince Rupert as a gateway to Alaska, as well as our status as one of the key transportation terminals for their Marine Highway system.

The Daily featured details on the Mayor’s lifetime membership with a small article Thursday’s paper.

Prince Rupert Mayor Herb Pond has been given a lifetime membership to the Southeast Alaska Conference.

Pond was awarded the never-ending the never-ending admission pass at last week’s annual conference, which was held in Prince Rupert.

“It was a huge surprise and incredible honor for doing something that just makes good sense,” said Mayor Pond.

The award was handed to Pond because of his involvement with the conference over the years, visiting many of the communities in the southern panhandle of the U. S. state.

“We are pleased to extend a lifetime membership to Mayor Pond, as he has been an active participant in our organization for many years. He has brought goodwill and hopes for new and continuing partnerships between Southeast Alaska and Prince Rupert,” said Shelly Wright, executive director of Southeast Conference.

“We chose to take this action because we believe Prince Rupert is a key player in the region.”

Southeast Conference is the regional economic development organization for Southeast Alaska that began in 1958 to lobby for a regional transportation system that became the Alaska Marine Highway System. They advocate for issues that are key to the region as a whole.
