Take the Long way home!

Travelling east to west in Podunk on Monday afternoon became a bit of an adventure for motorists. A fuel or fluid spill on the Hays Creek bridge approach resulted in slick road conditions and eventually closed roads, as Prince Rupert Fire Rescue and the RCMP responded to the incident.

Reports had a Skeena Disposal truck having problems on Sixth Avenue East and spilling fuel or fluids along the road, resulting in a nasty mess and one that had the potential to be quite hazardous for those driving along the road.

The normally easy and quick five minute trip from downtown to Seal Cove turned into a circle tour of backstreets, as Sixth was blocked from the west at Hays Cove Petro Can and from the east at Donald street, Drydock Road was also closed at George Hills.

The road re-opened later in the afternoon after a noticeable amount of sand was dropped along the bridge and on the hill up Sixth..
