Losing the game may hurt, but reading the papers is worse

Everybody loves a winner, but lose and you're going to be a lonely, lonely guy.

With the departure of the Detroit Red Wings and the Philadelphia Flyers from the NHL playoffs, the media contributors have brought their knives with them as the eviscerate the teams that have let them down.

There's a reason that a lot of athletes don't like to read the newspapers, and for those that follow that path in Detroit and Philly, there's money to be saved at the news stand this week.

Glimpses from the Detroit papers after the termination of the Red Wings playoff ambitions.

The Ending wasn't a total shock
What's next for Yzerman, the Wings after crushing loss
Impeached
Murray thankful to Wings
Red Wings grades
The Bitter End Bought It
Legace doesn't bring it in series

Well if the Detroit press was terribly disappointed by the early exit of the Red Wings, imagine the apoplectic fits taking place in the City of Brotherly love. The Philadelphia media weighs in on what's next for those in Orange and Black and a recurring theme is that Mr. Clarke and Mr. Snider need to fix their team quickly.

Time to reassess, not fire a coach
Emphasis on Big start backfires
Flyers go out with a whimper
Flye by night Clarke's turn to right his wrongs
With little to root for, fans call it a night early
Esche gets rise out of the fans
'New NHL' Sabres teach harsh lesson
